12 October: Light Up The Forest at The Lodge
On Saturday 12 October, The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre will transform its trails into a wonderland of colour and light. Come and join us for an unforgettable night in the woods, which will let you see the forest in an entirely new and enchanting way.
Celebrating 100 years of forestry
This year's event is a little different. The theme is '100 years of Forestry'- celebrating a century since the passing of the landmark 1919 Forestry Act, which led to the creation of the Forestry Commission. Things were very different back then, with just 5% of UK land covered with trees. Following the First World War, the newly-minted Forestry Commission began an ambitious re-planting and afforestation programme which continues to this day, under Forestry and Land Scotland.
To find out more about the past 100 years of forestry in Scotland, you can visit our newly-created microsite, forestcentenary.scot. A collaboration with industry partners, and the archival website Forestry Memories, the site tells the story of Scotland's forest industries from 1919 to the present day through an interactive photographic timeline. If you're currently employed in the industry, or are a former employer, you can even get in touch with us to contribute photos, memories and more.
