Did you know that Scotland is home to ten of the 17 bat species living and breeding in the UK? …
Barhill Woods is a lovely mixed woodland of broadleaves and conifers, right on the doorstep of Kirkcudbright. This attractive town is famous as the home of many Scottish artists, and Barrhill Woods are just the place to come for some inspiration. The woods are especially pretty in late spring, when bluebells cover the ground.
There are great views over Kirkcudbright and its harbour, while the forest is alive with blackbirds and thrushes: listen for the rustle as they search for food among the leaves. You might hear the drumming of woodpeckers too.
A peaceful stroll through the shady beech, spruce and larch woodland on Bar Hill, which is alive with wildlife.
