Did you know that Scotland is home to ten of the 17 bat species living and breeding in the UK? …
This woodland, on the doorstep of Heathhall village and just a short drive from Dumfries, is criss-crossed by a number of informal paths that you are welcome to explore. It’s a great place to enjoy a woodland picnic, easy walks and short bike rides along its tree-lined paths.
There is no charge to park in this car park. Please park with care and consideration. In particular please park in designated parking areas only and do not block entrances or gates.
There are two entry points to Heathhall Forest. From the north, there is access from Tinwald Downs Road to the south of Heathhall village, where there is plenty of onstreet parking. From the south, a small car park is available just east of the roundabout where they A75 and A709 meet east of Dumfries. Take the exit for Lockerbie - the forest entrance is immediately on your left after leaving the roundabout.
You can cycle to Heathhall from Dumfries railway station on Local Cycle Route 10.
