No fishing at Loch Morlich
Forestry and Land Scotland is reminding visitors to Loch Morlich that fishing is not permitted at the site.
FLS took the decision last year to stop issuing fishing permits because of the increasing popularity of the loch for other water based activities.
Laura McNally, for the FLS team in the area, said;
“Loch Morlich is a designated bathing area for swimmers, rowers, canoeists and paddle boarders.
“It’s already hugely popular and we expect that in the summer holidays - and with good weather - more and more people will jump at the chance to enjoy some outdoor activity after a year of restrictions.
“Having hooks and lines in the water at the same time would be a hazard for all concerned. There is the additional consideration of the risks to wildlife if angling equipment is lost or left behind.
“Hopefully no-one will be too disappointed as there are many other, quieter locations in the area for anglers to enjoy a day out.”
The site is a honey-pot attraction for thousands of visitors every year. The number of recreational activities on and in the Loch does make the site less appealing to anglers.
FLS only received a handful of requests for fishing permits last year and anyone found fishing without a permit was cooperative when asked to stop.
