Countesswells' smaller and quieter neighbour

Foggieton is a place to look for forest berries and listen to chattering birds. Its Doric name means ‘mossy farm’ and old farm walls still stand amongst the trees.

It offers a peaceful alternative to the more popular Countesswells wood round the corner.

Warblers' Trail

Watch for warblers flitting among the young trees on this short winding trail.

Firm, largely smooth gravel surface throughout. Generally flat with some short moderate ramps. Some patches may be slightly muddy.

More information

A storm blew down this area of the wood many years ago. Now it has been replanted with a variety of native trees, but they still have a lot of growing to do. Silver birch trees, with their long slender trunks and pale bark, are also regenerating naturally. They love the light and want to get closer to the sky.

Ladyhill Trail

Wander through the magnificent mature beech wood and look for blackberries and raspberries in the summer and autumn.

Firm but uneven gravel surface throughout, with some short muddy patches. Long moderate slopes.

More information

The beech trees which tower over the car park are over 150 years old. They were planted on this farmland around the same time as Aberdeen University was founded and slavery was abolished in America. Imagine how small they must have been then!

Please park with care and consideration. In particular please park in designated parking areas only and do not block entrances or gates. Nearby car parks with free parking can be found in our local forest list without the £ symbol.

Getting here

The car park for Foggieton is on Baillieswells Road, 1 ¼ miles north of Bieldside. From the North Deeside Road (A93), follow the turning signposted for 'Blacktop'.

From the north end, take the turning signposted for 'Bieldside' from Countesswells Road. Foggieton is ¼ mile down this road.
