Did you know that Scotland is home to ten of the 17 bat species living and breeding in the UK? …
The trails from Allt Mor take you through a wonderful mix of tall, thick pines and young saplings, with a tumble of heather, blueberry and juniper on the ground. Everywhere there's the chatter of running water, tumbling down from the mountains.
Glenmore Forest Park route card (PDF)
Explore the atmospheric pine woods on an easy-going trail around Glenmore’s National Outdoor Centre.
Mostly wide, uneven gravel surface with some potentially muddy patches. Includes a couple of short fairly steep slopes and some low branches.
Allow 1 ½ hours
Look out for some small headstones by the path near the lodge, which mark the graves of dogs buried here a century ago by the Dennistoun family. The family ran a shipping business in Glasgow and loved staying in Glenmore on shooting parties.
If the forest works its magic and you’d like to see bit more, follow the blue markers up the glen when you meet the Ryvoan Trail until you reach the sheltered beauty spot of Lochan Uaine (The Green Lochan). Going there and back will add 1½ miles / 2.4 km onto the trip.
Public toilets are available 24 hours at Loch Morlich Beach car park (Easter- 31 October) and in Glenmore village (year round).
No camping is allowed within the car park area. Fires and barbecues are not permitted. For more information on best practice in the outdoors, visit the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
