About

Enjoy panoramic views over Loch Carron

Take a break from driving and pull in for the panoramic views at the Loch Carron viewpoint. You can see all the way to Wellington's Nose from here!

Just down the road is Strome Wood: a hidden natural gem with more gorgeous views over Strome Castle, Loch Carron and even to Skye. It's a charming community woodland with pleasant trails and quiet picnic tables. Sixteen species of fern grow in the damp environment and summer wildflowers bloom on the sheltered slopes. You could see coastal birds here as well as woodland birds, and seals often sun themselves on rocks below the wood.

Strome Wood is managed for the benefit of visitors and local people by a partnership between Forestry and Land Scotland and the Fernaig Community Trust.

More information

Listen for woodland birds and animals as you walk. In spring you might hear woodpeckers drumming on old dead tree trunks, or the high-pitched call of a buzzard, which sounds a bit like a cat.
