Did you know that Scotland is home to ten of the 17 bat species living and breeding in the UK? …
This calm woodland on the edge of the town is a great place for a stroll, a picnic or walk with the dog beside the Calder Water.
There’s just over a mile of gravel paths through the wood, which are ideal for walking, cycling or running – but be prepared for some long moderate slopes. There is also an 800 metre easy route which has been added to the top of the site, offering a firm, flat route for those short of time or looking for something less strenuous.
You can extend the route here along the river by following the North Calder Heritage Trail, a 10 mile (16km) walking and cycling route between Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge in Coatbridge and Hillend Reservoir at Caldercruix.
You’ll find plenty of places to eat, drink and shop, and public toilets, in the centre of Airdrie.
There is a small car park on site, with room for three cars, if this area is full there is plenty of on-street parking nearby
There is no charge to park in this car park. Please park with care and consideration. In particular please park in designated parking areas only and do not block entrances or gates.
Small car park on Towers Road and on street parking available locally.
Nearest postcode: ML6 8LP
There are regular trains from Glasgow and Bathgate to Airdrie. Find details at Traveline Scotland.
