Aros Park land management plan
Aros Park land management plan
Aros Park lies one mile south of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Much of the park has historically been woodland, with a mix of early estate plantings and later commercial conifers, before acquisition by the Forestry Commission in 1957. Aros Park is FLS’ main recreation facility on Mull and is a popular destination both for local islanders and visiting tourists. It is the focus for a network of footpaths accessible both on foot from Tobermory and by car. It also comprises the Sound of Mull Cliffs SSSI along it’s coastal boundary to the south.
Objectives
- Support and enable investment in facilities and access for both locals and visitors to the Isle of Mull.
- Continue to manage policy woodland silvicultural system.
- Continue to work with the community on facilitating and progressing opportunities for community involvement in the forest given its close proximity to Tobermory.
- Work with the community to protect the important Victorian heritage of Aros Park Estate.
- Continue to maintain SSSI (Sound of Mull Cliffs) in favourable condition and restore PAWS, including the SSSI buffer; develop and implement a plan to reduce and contain R. ponticum.
- Facilitate solutions for management of herbivore impact to support species diversity and ground vegetation as well as encouraging natural regeneration.
