Glen Affric land management plan
Glen Affric land management plan
This Land Management Plan (LMP) was approved by Scottish Forestry in February 2021. The LMP states how we intend to manage the forest over the coming ten years and our vision for the next 25 years. The LMP covers an area of approximately 17,000 hectares (ha). Glen Affric is one of the largest and finest examples of Native Caledonian Pinewood that once covered a large proportion of Scotland. It is a highly designated forest for its rare habitats, species and scenic value. It has a long history of habitat restoration. It is highly used for recreation by both locals and visitors from outside the area.
Approximately 5,300 ha of the landholding is forested with roughly 11,700 ha of open ground. The forest is 73% conifer and 27% broadleaf. The open ground is mostly heathland and includes a number of Munros. Please see the documents and maps below that show the key issues for the plan area. The summary document gives an introduction to the forest, explains the management zone map and what the issues and objectives are for each zone.
