The Bellamore woodland creation site lies near Pinwherry in South Ayrshire. It is immediately adjacent to the White Clauchrie Land Management Plan area, with the privately held forests of Glake and Knockodhar lying to the north-east and north-west. It is part of Scotland’s national forests and land owned by Scottish Ministers on behalf of the people of Scotland and managed by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS).

Covering 514 ha, Bellamore accommodates a valley which contains agricultural grazing with some small plantation areas of both conifer and broadleaves, along with riparian broadleaves. New planting will involve limited numbers of productive conifers that are predominantly confined to the former agricultural fields. Many mature native broadleaf species colonising the large riparian corridor will be encouraged to colonise the area further, with the provision of a habitat network connecting down the valley to the south west being envisioned. The remaining area contains a variety of priority open habitats and there are expansive areas of deep peat. There is potential to sequester carbon through appropriate management of both woodland and open areas (particularly the blanket bog areas).

Forestry and Land Scotland is currently drafting the Bellamore woodland creation land management plan in order to define the management prescription for the next ten year period (between 2021-31) and to present the vision for the long-term management of the area. The key management objectives in this plan will focus on: afforestation and expansion of the wooded riparian corridor, protecting and enhancing priority habitats, and carbon sequestration.

Draft versions of the plan will be published here. We invite comments and feedback from the public on all of our proposals.

Community consultation

Scoping consultation with stakeholders (including the local community) is a requirement of the land management planning process but it is also a valuable opportunity for us to engage with the public, talk about our work, and discover what's important to you.

Thank you to all who have provided feedback and comment. We are still available to answer your queries. Please look through the documents on this web page and send any queries to the email address provided below.
