Peaceful forest roads with fine views over Newton Stewart

Head for this quiet area of forest near Newton Stewart for a circular trail with great views. The trail also passes Kirroughtree Visitor Centre, allowing for a welcome diversion for coffee and cake at the café.

A fine circuit around Larg Hill that’s ideal for cycling or horse riding. Great views over Newton Stewart and Cairnsmore of Fleet. 

Firm, wide gravel surface throughout, with some loose, uneven and occasionally muddy sections. Includes some fairly steep slopes.

The wide forest roads here make this an ideal place for horse-riding. There's room in the car park for a couple of horse boxes.

The nearest public toilets by car are in Newton Stewart. You'll also find toilets (including accessible facilities), a café and shop about half way along the walking trail, at Kirroughtree Visitor Centre.
