Forestry and Land Scotland’s campsite on East Loch Lomond

Sallochy Campsite is situated on the Eastern shores of Loch Lomond and offers stunning views across the loch towards the Arrochar Alps. The small beach is a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the scenery and the 200 year old oak woodland is a peaceful place to stroll and spot some local wildlife.

The campsite has basic facilities to give you a 'wilder' camping experience. Composting toilets and drinking water are available but there are no showers on-site.

The site is ideal for families, walkers and those wanting to experience a short outdoor break in the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Please book early to avoid disappointment as the campsite is often full during the summer.

Sallochy is a great resting place after a long day of walking on the West Highland Way and an idyllic setting to enjoy a picnic or barbecue by the water.

The Campsite

Opening and closing dates

The campsite will close for the winter on 1 October 2024. It will open as a day-visitor car park from this time.

Our campsite wardens are on site between 9am and 3:30pm, 7 days a week.

Booking information

• Sallochy Campsite is a tents only campsite. We do not accommodate campervans, motorhomes or car tents.
• There is a 3 night maximum stay.
• 24-hour advanced booking is required.
• Pitches are available from 2pm on the day of your arrival and must be vacated by 11am on day of your departure.
• We cater for walkers and families. Each pitch has x2 tents and x4 people maximum as we do not permit group bookings. The campsite wardens reserve the right to refuse your booking if you do turn up in a group.
• There is a £3 charge per vehicle and this provides free parking at all Forestry and Land Scotland Queen Elizabeth Forest Park car parks for the following day.
• We operate a non-refund policy for all bookings cancelled within 72 hours of arrival date. Booking alterations require a minimum 24 hours’ notice.

• March - April: £9 per adult per night
• May - August: £10 per adult per night
• September - October: £9 per adult per night
• £2 for children aged 5 - 16 years
• £3 per vehicle visit
• Under 5s go free

Camping pitches

We offer a number of pitches in various locations around our site. From the stunning loch side pitches to the central area pitches there is a spot for everyone.

Pets are welcome on all pitches, however, please ensure they are kept under close control at all times.

Site Rules

• Conduct: Please respect your fellow campers and keep noise to a minimum between 11pm and 7am. Be aware we cater for lots of young families. If any complaints are received regarding your conduct then you will be asked to leave the site with no refund.
• Dogs: Dogs are welcome and should be kept under close control at all times. Please clean up after your dog and do not allow fouling of the camping areas.
• Health and safety: Please ensure children are supervised appropriately, parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring they can explore safely here. The vehicle speed limit on site is strictly 10mph and parking is permitted in designated bays only.
• Fires: Fires are permitted only in the fire pits available to rent. Wood can also be purchased so please do not damage trees, or disturb the protected habitat here by collecting dead wood. BBQs must be raised off the ground and kept well clear of trees. Please ensure fires and BBQs are not left unattended and safely extinguished after use.
• Waste: Please dispose of waste in the bins provided and please refrain from putting unwanted tents in our commercial bins.
• Alcohol: Local byelaws specify that the public consumption of alcohol is not permitted anywhere on East Loch Lomond. This includes Sallochy Campsite. We ask all campers to respect this byelaw, so that everyone can enjoy their stay at Sallochy.

Oakwood trails that pass a lochside pebbly beach

The trails here wind through tranquil oakwoods that are over 200 years old. This is a great place to watch for wildlife, including secretive roe deer and noisy jays. Enjoy a picnic beside the loch or take to the water – this is a popular place for wild swimming.

Sallochy Trail

Climb through a delightfully varied woodland to the craggy viewpoint on Dun Maoil for spectacular views over Loch Lomond and the Arrochar Alps. 

Largely firm gravel or grassy paths. Short section of rough, narrow earthy path with muddy patches up to viewpoint. Long moderate slopes with some steep sections. Includes a road crossing.

The West Highland Way, Scotland’s best known long distance trail, stretches 96 miles from Milngavie near Glasgow to Fort William. Walk a stretch of it at Sallochy and get a taste for the adventure.
