4 ½ miles of well-maintained paths meander through this pretty, open woodland on the hillside above Johnstone. The peaceful Craigbog Burn and some rocky outcrops make this a wonderful place for children to play and families to get some fresh air.

Bluebell Wood used to be part of the grounds of Johnstone Castle along with nearby Rannoch Wood and Windyhill. Despite their unique characters, the three are barely separated which is why the locals refer to them all as 'the woods'.

Getting here

There is no car park at this location.

The woods are sandwiched between Rannoch Road and Maple Drive on the south side of Johnstone. There are plenty of entry points, although aim for on street parking on Elm Drive or Maple Drive if bringing a car.

Please park with consideration and do not block pedestrian and vehicle access points. Do consider public and active transport if available and possible.

Public transport

The forest is less than ½ mile (800 metres) from Johnstone railway station, and there are bus services along Beith Road and Rannoch Road on the edges of the woodland. Check Traveline Scotland for details.
