Leanachan Masterplan

Forestry Commission Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise have created a masterplan for an area of potential development within Leanachan Forest, in Scotland’s Lochaber district.

The The Nevis Forest and Mountain Resort Masterplan (PDF 11.7MB) aims to develop a high quality experience for a range of visitors to the area whilst ensuring all infrastructure is in keeping with the environment.

The plan was approved by The Highland Council’s Lochaber Area Committee in August 2015. We are now formulating the procurement process prior to marketing the development opportunities.

If you would like to register an interest in the development sites, please contact Leona Wilkie.

The masterplan explores opportunities for a hotel and spa, cabins and other low impact accommodation, improvements to existing facilities and a new entrance and service road. These developments will complement the area's existing facilities and help to support the local economy of Fort William and Lochaber.

Please note, the masterplan has been prepared to provide a set of strategic guiding principles and a flexible framework for development and does not itself support or promote any individual projects. The proposals are purely indicative and provide the design guidance for the basis of future planning applications to be put forward as part of the development process.

Appendices

The appendices are grouped in one document Nevis Forest Resort Masterplan Appendices (PDF 5MB), and include the THC letter, engagement timetable, consultation contact and stakeholder list, consultation comments and responses matrix, and consultation responses.

Consultation and feedback

The masterplan builds upon previous studies and an intensive eighteen month process of information gathering, analysis and consultation.

A key component of the design process has been the stakeholder and public engagement, the outcome of which was crucial in formulating the masterplan proposals.

Public consultation on the masterplan took place in late 2014. Comments were invited from the public and a consultation event took place at Nevis Range. Feedback from this consultation is available in the appendices above.
