Clunes and Loch Arkaig Land Management Plan (LMP) area is located on the south west section of the Great Glen in Lochaber. It occupies 3002ha of land, which extends continuously from Clunes Forest on the western shores of Loch Lochy to Loch Arkaig Forest on the north-eastern shores of Loch Arkaig. This comprises commercial conifer plantation, native woodland and open ground, which extends from 30m elevation at loch shore to 917m at the summit of the Munro Meall na Teanga in Clunes Forest.

The land holding includes 1184ha of forested ground (57% of which is designated as Plantation on Ancient Woodland Sites – PAWS) and 1818ha of open ground, the majority of which is priority habitat.

The LMP area lies adjacent to the rural communities of Achnacarry, Bunarkaig & Clunes in the South and Kilfinnan in the north-east. The steep face of Clunes Forest is highly visible in the landscape from the A82 on the East side of Loch Lochy. There are small, but highly valuable areas of Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland (ASNW) scattered throughout the forested areas, small Caledonian core pine areas, montane scrub remnants and an extensive coverage of PAWS.
