The Iron Age dun of Kraiknish sits on the top of a rocky knoll on the coastline at the mouth of Loch…
Get away from the hustle and bustle, relax, and enjoy the peaceful, uninterrupted views of the Cheviot Hills. From here explore Newcastleton forest’s walking and mountain bike trails, and also Wauchope forest walking trails just a short drive away - a great place to look out for Goshawks in the skies above.
Both upper and lower Cheviot car parks are close to one another, just 100 meters along the road separates them. Walk or cycle along the forest road from the car park, and if you are good with a map you can discover larger loops on foot or bike that go deep into the hills.
The nearest facilities to the Cheviots (including shops and places to eat and drink) can be found in Hawick (13 miles) and Newcastleton (13 miles). There are also public toilets in Hawick. Nearby Wauchope features waymarked walking trails.
There is no charge to park in these car parks.
Please park with care and consideration. In particular please park in designated parking areas only and do not block entrances or gates.
Stay the Night continues to run through to 31 December 2024. This means self-contained motorhomes and campervans will be able to park overnight for one night in some of our car parks.
