Cheviots

Where we are

About

Travel off the beaten track

Get away from the hustle and bustle, relax, and enjoy the peaceful, uninterrupted views of the Cheviot Hills. From here explore Newcastleton forest’s walking and mountain bike trails, and also Wauchope forest walking trails just a short drive away - a great place to look out for Goshawks in the skies above.

Both upper and lower Cheviot car parks are close to one another, just 100 meters along the road separates them. Walk or cycle along the forest road from the car park, and if you are good with a map you can discover larger loops on foot or bike that go deep into the hills.

Stay the Night

The nearest facilities to the Cheviots (including shops and places to eat and drink) can be found in Hawick (13 miles) and Newcastleton (13 miles). There are also public toilets in Hawick. Nearby Wauchope features waymarked walking trails.

Stay the Night

We are trialling an extension of Stay the Night to run over winter this year. This means motorhomes and campervans that are self-contained and have their own toilet facilities will be able to stay overnight at this car park.

There is a £7 charge to Stay the Night at all participating car parks. Payment can be made through RingGo with details of how to do this at each car park.

To help plan your stay, please see the details below:

  • Height barrier – No
  • Motorhome capacity of car park – 3 in Upper and 6 in Lower
  • Suitable for large vehicles/caravans – No
  • Access notes - Two car parks at Cheviot close to one another on forest road with steep entrance. See map location for details of Upper and Lower car parks. Car park on slight slope approached on rough forest road. Please leave a 4m gap between other motorhomes and use bays.

Please visit our Stay the Night page for full details, participating locations, best practice, and terms and conditions of use.
