This Land Management Plan (LMP) covers 2,677 hectares in the vicinity of Glenelg, Ardintoul and Ratagan on the Glenelg peninsula, Lochalsh (see Location Map 1 below). The LMP was last consulted upon and revised during 2024 with consequent approval by forestry regulator Scottish Forestry on 5th August 2024. It contains and describes all forest and land management proposals on this landholding for ten years from the date of approval.

All the documents and maps that comprise this LMP are listed below and are available to view or download from this list.

Plan objectives

The LMP has the following key management objectives:

  • Consolidate future productive woodland onto the most suitable, practically managed terrain – felling/restructuring focussed on vulnerable slopes and plantations on ancient woodland sites.
  • Conserve, expand and connect native woodland habitat – focused on ancient semi-natural woodland expansion, riparian corridor initiation and continuing phased PAWS restoration.
  • Protect and improve water quality and associated riparian and loch-side habitat – an important contributory factor to maintaining favourable status of designated Lochs Duich and Alsh.
  • Increase the resilience of the landholding to withstand the anticipated impacts of climate change – including productive forests, semi-natural habitats, underlying soil/peat, terrain/slopes and water bodies.
  • Improve the scenic value of the landholding – to achieve a more sympathetic and integrated fit with broader landscape character.
  • Support and maintain public access to the landholding.

Our goal is to ensure all forests and open ground are managed in as practical and effective a manner as possible for broad social, economic and environmental benefit. The LMP’s ‘approved’ status also confirms compliance with the requirements of the UK Forestry Standard.
