Important

The recent storm has affected many of our destinations; it will take us some time to assess the extent of the damage. We are prioritising tree clearance work based on immediate danger and/or access issues. If you are visiting please take extra care and report any specific concerns to your local regional office.

Torran was acquired by Forestry and Land Scotland in 2019, and is situated between Salachry Forest block and Inverliever Forest block, West Loch Awe, Argyll. It totals 575Ha and includes open hill tops, riparian corridors, priority habitats and native broadleaves.

There are various heritage features including Dun Dubh sitting at 310m above sea level overlooking Ford, and Dun Toiseach, a scheduled monument. Forestry and Land Scotland propose to create a mix of broadleaved woodland, productive conifer forest and open hill tops, as well as protect and enhance priority habitats and riparian corridors.

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Screening Opinion Request (SOR) was submitted to Scottish Forestry (SF) for afforestation. SF gave the opinion Consent Not Required (CNR) on 18th December 2024. This opinion is valid for a period of 5 years.
