The Hartwood Forests Land Management Plan covers an area of 522ha (5.22km) within North Lanarkshire in Central Scotland. It is located immediately West of Shotts, on the North side of the A71 around the villages of Hartwood and Bowhousebog. A land management plan sets out how we intend to manage specific areas of land for a period of ten years, and outlines proposals for a further ten years.

Following early community engagement in July 2022, we have produced a draft Land Management Plan with proposals for peatland restoration and woodland creation being put forward for different parts of the site; taking into account various considerations such as the site attributes, landscape, biodiversity, and the views of local residents.

The links and documents below detail our management proposals for this site for the next 10-20 years. Land Management Plans are by their nature technical documents and may not be easily interpreted by those not familiar with forestry practices and terminology. For the general public, we recommend viewing the Storymap, Land Management Plan Summary, Summary Maps and Visualisations, which aim to communicate our key proposals in a more accessible format. For those who wish to review the plans in more detail, the Land Management Plan main document, and associated Appendices and Maps are also available to view.

Our foresters and community engagement team will also be on hand to answer any questions regarding our proposals at the Allanton Senior Citizens Centre on Tuesday 7th November (see details below), but you are also welcome to contact us directly using the details below.

Consultation

On Tuesday 7th November 2023, our local planning, delivery, and visitor services staff were on hand to answer any questions about these proposals during an in-person event at Allanton Senior Citizens Centre. We also ran an online survey so that the public could share their thoughts on our proposals for this site.

The survey is now closed, but you are welcome to contact us directly using the details below.
