The management unit covers 817 ha and is located around 5 kilometers North-West of Selkirk and 6 kilometers to the South West of Galashiels, South Scotland.  It is part of Scotland’s national forests and land, owned by Scottish Ministers on behalf of the people of Scotland, and managed by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS). The Yair Land Management Plan (LMP) defines the management prescription for the next ten years (2023-32), and presents the vision for the long-term management of the area.

The main management objectives in this plan focus on sustainable timber production, maintained diversification of structure and resilience to climate change. We are developing a land management plan to detail these proposals for management of the area over the next ten years. Draft versions of the plan will be published here and we invite comments and feedback from the public on the proposals.

Community consultation event

Scoping consultation with stakeholders (including the local community) is a requirement of the land management planning process, but it is also a valuable opportunity for us to engage with the public, talk about our work, and discover what's important to you.

A community scoping event was held within the Caddonfoot Hall in Clovenfords as a part of the wider Tweed Valley Land Management plan proposals on the 11th September 2017. Comments received during this event will be considered in the proposals of this plan. Given the time elapsed from this event and current plan development a Google survey form is available for further comment which is accessible below. Members of the public will be signposted here via posters at the Yair Forest entrances.

*08/09/2023 The online survey form is now closed for comments however, you can still contact us directly via the email below*
