Glenhurich Forest lies in a remote area adjacent to the south east shore of Loch Shiel and stretches eastwards in land for 13 km along several glens. It covers almost 4400 ha of land, of which 1796 ha is forested land almost 80% of which consisting of commercial conifer species. Native woodland species occupy 8% of the forest with felled land occupying just over 12%.

The remaining ground is dominated by open mountain with small agricultural fields located on the Hurich floodplain and around the hamlets of Polloch and Kinlochan.

The forest surrounds the small communities of Polloch and Kinlochan. It is largely out of view from the public, except for the local community and occasional hillwalker, kayaker or tour boat. Much of the land lies on steep ground with multiple watercourses all of which drain into Loch Shiel. There are scattered remnants of Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland (ASNW) and Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS).
