The South East Fife Woods Land Management Plan (LMP) covers 420 hectares between Loch Leven and the Firth of Forth. It encompasses the four separate Forestry and Land Scotland landholdings at Benarty, Pitcairn, Cardenden (including South Dundonald Farm), and Cullaloe.

This plan sets out our proposed management for these sites for the next ten years and beyond. Operations proposed over the next ten years include felling, thinning/low-impact management, and woodland creation; all of which are detailed in the documents and maps below. 

Consultation and Feedback

Following our public engagement exercise between August and September 2024, the plan has now been submitted to Scottish Forestry for regulatory approval. As part of this process it will be placed on the Scottish Forestry Public Registers for a period of 28 days between the 3rd and the 31st of March 2025. During this time, any unresolved comments or concerns can be raised with Scottish Forestry directly, via the contact details below. Comments raised during our public engagement exercise in 2024, along with our response to these, can be viewed in Appendix I – Public Consultation Record below. 

Project timeline

  • January 2023 - March 2024: internal scoping, site surveys, and concept development
  • March - July 2024: develop draft management proposals for public consultation
  • August - September 2024: public scoping and draft LMP consultation 
  • October - November 2024: review of comments and development of final management proposals
  • January 2025: draft plan submitted to Scottish Forestry
  • March 2025: LMP placed on Public Register prior to formal approval
  • April 2025: review of any Public Register responses and formal approval of the LMP
