Loch Lomond Forests Land Management Plan
Loch Lomond Forests Land Management Plan navigation
Following concept consultation and analysis, the Loch Lomond Forests Land Management Plan (LMP) was formally approved by Perth and Argyll Conservancy in March 2026 and is scheduled for renewal by March 2036.
The plan area covers over 1103 hectares, located on the East coast of Loch Lomond. Around 83% of the area is forested, mainly with native broadleaves, with some open ground and around 17% comprised of non-native conifers.
The forest is an important area for both the environment and recreation. Falling within the Atlantic Strategic Rainforest (ASR) zone, it hosts many native plant species and supports a range of wildlife, including red squirrel, otters, osprey and pine marten. Most of the area also falls within the Ben Lomond Memorial Landscape (BLNML), an agreement between us and the National Park to establish the area as a place for quiet recreation with a focus on native species.
Some parts of the forest will retain a productive characteristic in recognition of the role forestry has played in the area, however, this will be exclusively broadleaf species that will be managed for high-quality timber, thus contributing to the delivery of environmental and recreational objectives.
Renaming Land Management Plans as Long Term Plans
Land Management Plans are in the process of becoming known as Long Term Plans, a change needed as a result of changes taking place in legislation.
TheĀ Land Reform Act introduces an alternative use for the term Land Management Plan which relates specifically to the forthcoming obligations set out under this banner. These terms are used interchangeably on our website, but both currently reference our plans developed in line with the UK Forestry Standard.
