Pitmedden and Weddersby Land Management Plan Amendment
Pitmedden and Weddersby Land Management Plan Amendment navigation
Pitmedden Forest lies on the ridge tops of the hills between Abernethy and Auchtermuchty. The forest is a popular recreation site. The older, well-thinned stands create attractive open forest spaces. An extensive informal trail network has developed in much of the forest facilitated by good access and parking.

Windblow amendment
Over the past 12 months, areas within the forest have experienced significant windblow, resulting in fallen and unstable trees that now present a safety risk to visitors. To address this, we are proposing targeted felling in the affected areas.
The boundaries of the felling area have been designed to return the forest to a wind-firm edge, which will reduce the likelihood of further windblow and support the long-term resilience of the whole forest.
Following the felling, the areas will be replanted with a diverse mix of conifer and broadleaf species, helping to create a more resilient and biodiverse woodland for the future.
