Ben Lomond hill path closure
Forestry and Land Scotland is advising members of the public that the Ben Lomond hill path will be closed for approximately 4 hours on Thursday 29 October.
The temporary closure is to ensure public safety while materials for planned path repair works are helicoptered in.
The more challenging Ptarmigan Ridge route will remain open, but anyone descending on the main path might find the route closed if they arrive at the work site while the helicopter is in operation.
FLS Visitor Services Supervisor, Gavin Crosby, said:
“Ben Lomond has to be one of the busiest hills in Scotland. Thousands of people come here every year to walk the route to the top and experience the fantastic views across the landscape.
“Unfortunately, being so popular means that the level of footfall is very high, which can have an effect on the path and means that every so often it needs to be repaired.
“Weather permitting, getting the materials to where they’re needed should be a relatively quick exercise but we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience that the temporary closure might cause.”
Stone surfacing material will be flown to the damaged section of path, 1km from Rowardennan car park, in order to repair erosion to a 200 metre long section of path.
Preparatory works will take place in the fortnight leading up to the helicopter drop, with final surface repairs taking approximately 2 days to complete.
