Falkirk community invited to comment on plans for Callendar Wood
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is inviting anyone living in and around Falkirk to give their views on a proposed 10-year management plan for Callendar Wood.
The woodland covers about 95 hectares and is a popular green space for locals and visitors with its historic paths, majestic old oaks, yew groves and tree-lined avenues.
The detailed proposals identify how the wood will be managed to maintain its long-term health and longevity.
FLS Planning Forester Toby Austin said:
“Developing this new plan is a chance for us to redesign the forest to make it more resilient in years to come.
“This means we are looking at removing the main concentrations of spruce and larch and transitioning the wood to principally broadleaves. We will also continue the control of invasive species such as Rhododendron ponticum and Himalayan balsam.
“The long-term plan will support the ongoing restoration of the wood – recognised as a plantation on ancient woodland or PAWS site – and build on the work we have done to make this woodland a special place.
“Before finalising these proposals, we’d welcome any comments and feedback from interested parties and invite people to take part in our public consultation exercise.”
The consultation will be open between 15 December 2025 and 7 February 2026.
FLS will be hosting two drop-in events in the new year to provide an opportunity for people to view the proposals, discuss these with staff and ask questions.
The drop-in events will be held at:
- Outdoor Community Drop In Event: 12pm - 3pm Saturday, 24 January 2026 at Callendar Wood; Grid Ref: NS 8973 7910.
- Indoor Community Drop In Event: 12pm - 3pm Saturday, 7 February 2026 in the Education Suite at Callendar House, Callendar Park, Falkirk; FK1 1YR. (Free car parking available).
