Local feedback invited on Heart of Scotland forests plan
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is inviting anyone living across North Lanarkshire to give their views on a proposed ten-year management plan for the Heart of Scotland Forests.
Woodland areas covered by the plan include Rawyards, Chapelhall, Dunsyston, Wester Moffat, Eastfield and Arns/Fannyside.
Key considerations in the plan include the creation of peatland habitat, controlling the spread of the damaging plant disease Phytophthora ramorum, timber production, wildlife management, and providing access both for future operations and for recreation.
Planning Forester, Toby Austin, said;
“Developing this new plan is a chance for us to redesign the forests to remove all the larch from the woodlands to protect against the spread of tree disease Phytophthora Ramorum.
“We are also proposing to increase areas of open ground across the plan area by 14 per cent as part of our peat restoration projects.”
The plans are online to allow local people to few the plans and leave feedback on the proposal.
