New path puts visitors' safety on new footing
Forestry and Land Scotland is pushing ahead with work on a long awaited path at Glenmore that will help keep visitors to the area safe.
With funding from the Cairngorms National Park Authority, FLS and SUSTRANS, FLS is carrying out the work on behalf of CNPA, which also secured the bulk of the funding for the £250,000 project from Visit Scotland’s (VS) Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF).
The path will provide safer access for walkers to local attractions and also link up with car parks along the road towards Loch Morlich and Glen More Visitor Centre.
Laura McNally, FLS’ Area Visitors Services Manager, said;
“For many years walkers visiting this amazing location have had to walk in on the road, stepping on to the verge when traffic has approached.
“This has long been a concern because of the potential risks to visitor safety, especially in bad or wet weather, when visibility is poor and when it can be slippy underfoot.
“Now, thanks to CNPA and Visit Scotland, we’re finishing off this new path which will make life a lot safer – and less frustrating! – for all visitors to the area.”
FLS delivered the improvements on behalf of CNPA after a successful tender exercise (delayed due to COVID19) saw Straths Civil Engineering appointed to carry out the work.
It is anticipated that the path will be completed by the end of December.
