Visitor management proposals for Glen Orchy and Glen Lochy

Visitor management has been an issue across much of the Highlands and Islands in recent years, fuelled in the last couple of years by lockdown regulations and the growth of staycations. While we welcome all visitors and encourage people to explore Scotland's national forests and land, we must ensure there are adequate facilities and infrastructure to cater for the increasing numbers of visitors, protect the local environment, and reduce the impact of increased visitor numbers on the local community.

Glen Orchy and Glen Lochy, from Dalmally to Bridge of Orchy and Tyndrum, are two areas that have felt the effects of increasing visitors most keenly.   

We have significant land ownership in each of the two glens. We want to play our part in working with the local community to reduce the impact of visitor pressure, and provide a better experience for visitors. That means tackling problems such as antisocial behaviour, dirty camping, pollution, litter and motorcycle noise, all of which are taking their toll on the local population and nature. 

Stirling-based landscape architects Raeburn Farquhar Bowen have been working with us to design improvements. After consultation with local residents and businesses in Spring this year, our team has now developed draft proposals for public feedback.

See the proposals in Bridge of Orchy and Dalmally

Display boards showing the proposals will be in Bridge of Orchy Village Hall and Dalmally from Thursday 25 August.  The proposals will be exactly the same as those published online. 

Community drop-in Wednesday 24 August 4pm-8pm

A public drop-in session will be held in Bridge of Orchy Hall on Wednesday 24 August between 4pm and 8pm. You’ll be able to see the draft proposals, ask any questions, meet the team and have a cuppa. Everybody is welcome.
