Path reopens to An Lochan Uaine following wildfire recovery work
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is welcoming back visitors to An Lochan Uaine (Green Lochan) following extensive restoration and safety work to forest paths.
The Ryvoan Trail, which includes access to An Lochan Uaine, is now open, as is the full Meall a' Bhuachaille circuit and access to Ryvoan Bothy. However, a section of the right of way to Nethy Bridge remains closed beyond Ryvoan Bothy where operations are continuing.
Trails in the area were significantly affected by the wildfire that burned across parts of the Cairngorms National Park in the summer and FLS teams and contractors have carried out significant works following detailed assessments of trees and the surrounding landscape.
Fire-damaged and unstable trees have been removed from the edges of forest roads and promoted walking trails. However, many dangerous trees still remain within some sections of the forest.
FLS Area Visitor Services Manager, Strathspey Laura Nicoll said:
"We're delighted to welcome visitors back to An Lochan Uaine, one of Glenmore's most loved destinations. The reopening of this route marks another significant milestone in our recovery efforts following the wildfire.
"Our teams and contractors are continuing to work hard to complete forestry operations and safety improvements in the remaining affected areas, including part of the Lodge Trail section between Ryvoan and Allt Mor. We hope to be in a position to fully reopen trails across Glenmore in the coming weeks.
“Due to the ongoing risk of falling trees and branches in some parts of the park, visitors are strongly advised to stay on open forest roads and waymarked routes when within the burned area and follow any on-site signage.
“We’d like to thank visitors, local businesses and local communities for their patience and understanding while this important work has been carried out and continues to progress.”
