Perthshire Christmas tree sales centres ‘boughing’ out
Forestry and Land Scotland’s team in Tayside will not be opening the Christmas Tree sales centres at Inver and Kinnoull this year.
With more and more outlets selling trees over the past few years, fewer people have been visiting the FLS centres in Tayside and they have become uneconomical to run.
FLS’s Area Visitor Services Manager for the area, Robin Lofthouse, said;
“The sales centres were always run to spread a bit of Christmas magic in a real woodland setting and while they did bring in a little income, that was never their sole purpose.
“However, dwindling numbers of visitors to our two centres in recent years has got us to the point where it’s no longer viable for us to keep them going.
“We would need to do a major re-think if we were to find a way of making them work but at the moment we’re focusing all our reserves and resources on getting back to normal forestry work after lockdown.
“We know that our not being there this year will be a disappointment to people, including those loyal customers who’ve been visiting us for years. However, we hope to be able to arrange for a local contractor to use the Kinnoull Hill site so that a forest visit might still be possible.”
