South West Fife Forests Management Plan Consultation
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is looking for feedback on a draft land management plan for ten of its forests in South West Fife.
The forests are Devilla, Balgownie, Tulliallan; Gartarry, East Grange, Lockshaw Moss, Middle Grange, Shiremill, Cadgerford and Muirside.
The draft plan sets out how FLS intends to balance the production of high quality timber, with protecting and enhancing forest habitat networks, and maintaining the high-quality public access that is enjoyed by many local people and visitors.
FLS Planning Forester, Stewart Towers, said;
“All of our land management plans set out what we intend to do at a forest location over a ten year period, and also give an indication of our plans for the ten years after that.
“The plans are about getting the most out of the forest both in terms of the timber it produces and in how it contributes more broadly to biodiversity and habitat provision. It’s also about maintaining these sites as great places to go for some outdoor exercise and recreation.
“Getting public feedback is important and we’d be happy to explain the opportunities and issues and hear some ideas.
“Unfortunately, with COVID-19 still impacting on how we all work, we are not holding public meetings or events. Instead, we are putting everything – including an introductory film - online so that people can look at it and feedback on it at their leisure.
“We’d really like to hear from as many people as possible.”
