Views sought on plans for Dalbeattie Forest
Forestry and Land Scotland is inviting local residents to give their views on proposed revisions to its Long Term Plan (LMP) for Dalbeattie Forest, just over 4.5 square miles of woodland on the southern edge of Dalbeattie town.
The LMP sets out a 10 year overview (2026-36) of how FLS plans to manage it for timber production, conservation and recreation.
FLS planning Forester, David Darroch, said;
“Every Forest we manage has a ten-year plan and at the end of that period we will review those plans and set out what we intend to do over the following ten years.
“Dalbeattie is one of the oldest forests acquired by our predecessor, the Forestry Commission, and includes a great variety of tree species of different ages.
“There are significant areas of native and ancient woodland, which is one of the main reasons that it has long been a favourite with the local community and visitors.
“It’s time to look at how we manage it over the next decade and we would like to invite anyone with an interest to come along, talk to us and find out what we’re planning and to give us their views and feedback.
“It’s a great opportunity for the public and local community let us know what is important to them.”
FLS will hold a drop-in session at Dalbeattie Town Hall (Lesser Hall) on Wednesday 27th May 2026, from 3-6pm.
Anyone unable to attend the drop-in session can also feedback via an online consultation where comments can be submitted using the survey form provided.
At all other times comments can be forwarded to david.darroch@forestryandland.gov.scot
