Raasay island is located between Skye and the mainland. The forest is made up of two blocks: Inverarish in the south and Brochel in the north.

Inverarish is approximately 200ha and is a mixture of commercial conifers and policy woodland that are associated with the designed landscape of Raasay house. This block is a back drop to the village and is highly visible from the ferry and the pier. The scheduled monuments in the forest are: the pictish stone, Dun Borodale, Mine Number 1 and 2 and the associated disused railway lines.

Brochel is approximately 100ha and was felled in 2001, it has been left open to allow natural regeneration of native trees to establish. Trees have established in the incised gullies that run down the site, however regeneration across the site has been limited due to grazing pressure from deer and sheep. This land holding runs down to the coast and is visible from the Applecross Peninsula.
