The Tannylaggie land management unit comprises of 2284.83 hectares and is a relatively low-lying woodland within the plateau moorland with forestry landscape character area. It sits north of the A75 and south of the B7027 and is a medium scale, linear plantation, west of the town of Newton Stewart. It’s flanked by the adjacent Penninghame, Kilgallioch and Knock of Luce FLS forest blocks, with private forestry to the north, south east and west. It sits adjacent to larger areas of open-hill ground south of the Three Lochs area, to the north west where the block neighbours the Kirkcowan Flow SSSI and sits within the River Bladnoch SAC catchment. The block was acquired in piecemeal between 1951 and 1991 with the majority of the planting taking place in the 1970’s.

It's part of the National Forest Estate, owned by Scottish Ministers on behalf of the people of Scotland and is managed by Forestry and Land Scotland.

We are currently revising the Long Term Plan (LTP) for this area. It is an opportunity for us to review the unit’s management objectives and set out our operations for the next ten years.

This page will be regularly updated with information, documents and maps as the plan takes shape.

Community consultation

It is important that we understand why this area is important to others. Consultation with stakeholders (including the local community) is a requirement of the long term plan process but it is also a valuable opportunity for us to engage with the public, talk about our work, and discover what is important to you.

We are currently inviting comments and feedback on our draft plans. Please contact us with your thoughts using the details at the bottom of this page.
