Important

There’s a very high risk of wildfire in North and North East Scotland from Friday 20 March to Saturday 21 March 2026. Please pay attention to local guidance and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

The Loch Sunart land management plan area is on the north shore of the Loch Sunart and is made up of seven separate woodlands from Dun Ghallian, west of Salen, to Camus a Choirce west of Strontian. These woodlands are part of the much larger Sunart oakwoods SSSI and provide opportunities for recreation and wildlife viewing.

The land management plan continues the process of the restoration of the oakwoods through the removal of further areas of commercial conifers and encouraging the natural regeneration of native woodland.  The plan now includes details for the management to protect and enhance the features of the SSSI. The opportunity for the management of some areas for the production of timber from native broadleaves and Scots pine is also considered.
