An old oak woodland that's a haven for wildlife...

This wood is treasured by local walkers for its tranquillity and wildlife. Explore the trails for stunning views over Cairnsmore and the coast.Watch out for roe and fallow deer, woodland birds, bats and butterflies in the glades during the summer.

You will also find an enormous pile of stones by the side of the path. This is the remains of the ancient, chambered cairn of Boreland. The tomb was built around six thousand years ago by the Neolithic farming pioneers who made this place home. This visualisation by Marcus Abbott allows us to imagine what the cairn would have looked like when it was first built.
