Quiet woodland walks next door to Dumfries

This woodland, on the doorstep of Heathhall village and just a short drive from Dumfries, is criss-crossed by a number of informal paths that you are welcome to explore. It’s a great place to enjoy a woodland picnic, easy walks and short bike rides along its tree-lined paths.

Getting here

There are two entry points to Heathhall Forest. From the north, there is access from Tinwald Downs Road to the south of Heathhall village, where there is plenty of onstreet parking. From the south, a small car park is available just east of the roundabout where they A75 and A709 meet east of Dumfries. Take the exit for Lockerbie - The forest entrance (which also has signs for 'Pine Golf Centre') is immediately on your left after leaving the roundabout.

You can cycle to Heathhall from Dumfries railway station on Local Cycle Route 10.
