We are currently carrying out full revision of our Land Management Plan (LMP) for FLS forests and land around Achnashellach and Craig in Glen Carron, Wester Ross (see Map 1 below). The revised LMP will replace the current ten year plan – originally approved in November 2015 – and will detail how we intend to manage our landholdings over the next ten years (2025 - 2035) and our vision for the land for the next twenty five years and beyond.

The plan covers an area of approximately 1,517 hectares and seeks to address the following issues and longer term management objectives as stated in the current plan:

  • Restoration of Caledonian pine and native broadleaved woodland and open habitats across the Plan area over the next 50 years.
  • Managing the land sympathetically to landscape character - optimising productive timber potential and  return from the existing forest whilst maintaining visitor access and the local aesthetic.
  • Reducing risks to people, public access and to vulnerable native habitats through sustainable forest and open ground planning and management.

Our goal is to ensure these forests and open ground are managed in as practical and effective a manner as possible for broad social, economic and environmental benefit. A plan brief document has been produced to summarise the key direction anticipated, and issues involved, in the review and is available below.

This consultation page will be used to share updates as the LMP revision progresses: i.e. uploading additional maps/documents and outlining developing objectives and prescriptions during the timeline (below). We will also seek wider public opinion through a local face-to-face meeting (see timeline below) as well as through correspondence with key statutory and local stakeholders during the evolution of the new LMP. The plan revision will culminate in an email notification to all stakeholders so far engaged in the plan revision process at the point when a finalised draft LMP is being submitted to Scottish Forestry for consideration and approval.

We try to use a variety of different methods of engagement – from online and postal correspondence, phone calls to face-to-face site meetings - to suit the needs of a broad range of individuals and organisations wishing to contribute to the new plan and to discuss particular issues.

We would therefore be pleased to hear from any interested parties during this drafting stage of the new plan. If you have preliminary comments please send them to us using the contact details at the bottom of this page. Thank you.

Timeline

  • May 2025: External scoping including notification of local and statutory stakeholders.

  • Late June/early July: Public presentation and discussion of emerging new LMP (local venue TBA).

  • Early August 2025: Draft LMP submitted to Scottish Forestry for approval and notified to all stakeholders. Formal consideration includes a further 30-day public consultation period overseen by regulator Scottish Forestry when the draft plan is placed on their online Public Register for any further and final comments/feedback.

  • October 2025: Assuming successful approval, the new LMP comes into effect to replace the expiring plan.
