Image of the Kilpatrick Hills

Every 10 years we look again at our land management plans and this year Kilpatrick Hills is due for renewal. At this point we can change the plan or keep it the same.

Map 1 shows the plan area and its location in the wider landscape. It covers approximately 3,500 hectares and chiefly comprises existing forest to the east, north and west connected by a large central expanse of open moorland and young native woodland.

Consultation & preparation of the full plan

The initial consultation period closed on 16th June and we are extremely grateful for all feedback received. We will now consider this feedback before preparing the full plan. Our aim is to submit the full plan to the forestry regulator 'Scottish Forestry' in late July/early September and place it on this webpage. Scottish Forestry will then publish this draft on their 'Public Register' website so that you can comment further on the proposals.

We have left the consultation documents below so that you can see our initial proposals.

Timeline for plan renewal:

  • Summer 2022: Internal scoping meeting to identify key management challenges over the last 10 years and considerations for next plan.
  • Spring 2024 - Winter 2024: Baseline desk and field surveys, site meetings with stakeholders & preparation of draft management proposals and concept design map.
  • May-June 2025: Formal consultation period for initial proposals. This included face-to-face community drop-in sessions with large-scale maps to view and comment on.
  • July 2025 onwards: Preparation of full land management plan. The final draft plan will be placed on this consultation webpage and submitted to Scottish Forestry (the forestry regulator) for review. As part of the approval process, the plan will be placed on Scottish Forestry’s public register for 28 days where you will also have opportunity to comment.
