Image of the Kilpatrick Hills

Every 10 years we look again at our land management plans and this year Kilpatrick Hills is due for renewal. At this point we can change the plan or keep it the same.

Map 1 shows the plan area and its location in the wider landscape. It covers approximately 3,500 hectares and chiefly comprises existing forest to the east, north and west connected by a large central expanse of open moorland and young native woodland.

Consultation

As part of the renewal process we would like to hear your views and comments on our vision for the plan. We have provided draft documents and maps to help explain this vision and later this year will hold informal community drop-in events where our local team will be available to discuss these proposals. Event dates and locations will be published shortly on this webpage.

Documents and maps

Timeline for plan renewal:

  • Summer 2022: Internal scoping meeting to identify key management challenges over the last 10 years and considerations for next plan.
  • Spring 2024 - Winter 2024: Baseline desk and field surveys, site meetings with stakeholders & preparation of draft management proposals and concept design map.
  • Spring 2025: Informal face-to-face community drop-in sessions will be held with large-scale maps to view and comment on.
  • Spring 2025 onwards: Preparation of land management plan main documents. The final draft plan will be placed on this consultation webpage and submitted to Scottish Forestry (the forestry regulator) for review. As part of the approval process, the plan will be placed on Scottish Forestry’s public register for 28 days where you will also have opportunity to comment.
