The Cononish Land Management Plan (2026-206) is a 10-year plan that covers an area of 651 hectares to the west of Tyndrum.
The area was acquired in the 1960s and 1970s and established predominantly with Sitka spruce and larch on previously open ground.
Plan renewal provided an opportunity to update management objectives to reflect current priorities and challenges. While timber production remains a key objective, there is an increased emphasis on native woodland expansion, biodiversity enhancement, and improved habitat connectivity.
A significant management priority is the proactive removal of vulnerable larch stands, particularly on steeper slopes, to reduce the risk posed by Phytophthora ramorum.
The long-term vision is to create a more diverse and resilient forest landscape, with productive forestry concentrated within core areas and expanded native woodland delivering wider environmental and landscape benefits.
