We have created a map-based register of the national forests and land where you can explore all the land and buildings that we manage across Scotland. This will help you identify suitable land or buildings in your area for a Community Asset Transfer Scheme (CATS) request.

More information about who owns land in Scotland is available from Scotland’s Land Information Service (ScotLIS).
All the national forests and land are registered and you can search the registers to find out information about previous sales and purchase title information, which will help complete your CATS application form.
Other sources of information
Our land management plans set out how we intend to manage specific areas of the national forests and land. The plans are renewed every 10 years in consultation with local communities to help us get the balance right between economic interests, including jobs and timber production, and social and environmental benefits.
The LIS Agri-environment and Forestry map tool brings together over 60 datasets relating to Scotland's environment. You can search your area of interest to identify environmental features and designations such as Scheduled Monuments, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Native Woodland which you’ll need to consider for your application.
More spatial data is available on the Forestry Commission Open Data Site. This includes a range of publicly available spatial datasets that can be used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including National Forest Inventories.
If you have a question about your local woodland, you can also contact your local Forestry and Land Scotland office.
