The 7stanes are world-class mountain biking centres that span the south of Scotland. These award-winning trails offer some of the best mountain biking in the country and attract riders from across the UK and beyond.
You do not have to be an experienced mountain biker to enjoy these famous trails. There are a wide range of routes to suit beginners, families and experts. Plus, many of the centres also have skills areas for you to practise your technique.

Forest of Ae
Ae has a superb variety of green, blue and red graded trails. It also has an extreme downhill section for the serious experts has and a skills area for honing your technique.
Glentrool
The trails here offer fun routes for families and beginners. Here you’ll find a great blue-grade trail and a long gravel ride, all with stunning scenery.
Kirroughtree
In a league of its own. Kirroughtree boasts trails for all, from gentle green routes to technically challenging singletrack for the pros.
Mabie
Catering for beginners right through to the most experienced riders. Mabie has a skills area and great trails that snake through the woods.
Newcastleton
Newcastleton has fantastic trails - suitable for all levels, but few crowds. Riders reckon it’s the ‘best-kept secret’ of the 7stanes.
Innerleithen
Renowned for its four downhill trails, Innerleithen is a thrill seeker's dream. There's also an excellent, red-graded cross-country trail.
Glentress
This incredibly popular mountain biking heaven is just an hour outside Edinburgh. It has challenging trails for the experts, as well as easy routes for beginners. In 2023, Glentress hosted the mountain bike world championships.
